The world is a better place with you in it

I shared something on LinkedIn this week that I want to bring to you too…with a smidge more behind the scenes insight.

Friday was an emotionally messy day for me. I got my mammogram and had a follow-up with my breast cancer surgeon.

And even though it's been three years since my diagnosis, every year when I walk back through those doors, I feel all the feelings all at once…

Gratitude for the fact that I’m still here, a quiet flutter of fear…what if they find something? and a huge rush of love for the people who took care of me. It's a lot of competing emotions.

(Oh hey…spoiler alert….scans were all clear! 🧚🏻‍♂️)

But here's the thing I didn't say in that post.

It took me a long time — a really long time — to truly believe that the world was a better place with me in it. That I mattered. That I was worth taking care of.

It took cancer to get me to start to see that…although it didn’t happen overnight (that’s a story for another day).

I don't wish cancer on anyone. But I do wish everyone could feel what I feel now — that certainty that your presence on this rock hurtling through space is not insignificant. That you matter.

And that's why I do this work. This isn’t just about me trying to help you prevent burnout or build better rest and unplugging habits. It’s helping you see that you matter…that taking care of yourself is an act of self-love.

If you want to keep doing your great work, being there for the people in your life, keep living your life and sharing your magic (yes, you are magic just by being here!)….you have to take care of you. And yes, you are worth taking care of.

So please. Take care of you. And while that can mean so many different things, today I want to remind you to get your screenings.

The mammogram. The skin check. The blood work. And yes, even the unpleasant ones (I’m looking at you colonoscopy). Also, get to know your body. Trust what you're feeling. Reach out when something doesn't feel right.

The world is a better place with you in it. I'd love for you to be here as long as you can be. Because we need your magic!

Sending you so much love,

Chris

PS…If you are going through something now or are nervous about going for your screenings and just want to chat, reach out. I’m always happy to jump on a Zoom or chat on the phone.

PPS…If you want to give yourself a break over the next few weeks, come join me for one of my Unplug with Chris sessions. They are a 25-minute reset during your day. You can come color, doodle, read, eat lunch or just chill.

I’m doing them on May 5, May 8, May 14 and May 19. Times vary…you can check out the times and more details here: https://luma.com/unplugwithchris

🌿 Unplugged Moments

Quick grounding practices to help you slow down and reconnect.

This Week's Practice: A 60-Second Check In

Once each day this week (or as many times as you can remember!), pause and ask yourself three questions:

How am I actually feeling right now?

Where am I holding tension?

What does my body need in this moment?

You don't have to fix anything. Just notice. That's it. That's the practice.

Sundays Unplugged is your weekly reminder to slow down and create space for you. Remember, while your work, your people, and your life matters… so do you.

If this resonated, feel free to forward it to someone who might need this reminder too.

Legs propped up on rocks by river in the woods.

Hey Reader, A few weeks ago, I sent an email where I joked about wanting to pack a bag and run away to the forest. The truth is… it wasn’t entirely a joke. Lately, I keep coming back to the same idea and desire (one I've had for a few years): creating spaces where people can step away from the noise and busyness of everyday life for a few hours (or maybe even overnight) and simply breathe. No packed itinerary or pressure to “transform.” Just cozy places near nature with room to wander, time...

Grey cat stretching on couch

My main caregiver last week - Marley! I've been sick for over a week. What started as a bad cold in June turned into a sinus infection in July. By Monday, I knew I needed to rest. Not “kind of” rest either…actually rest. The lie down and do nothing kind. And I was going to. I really was. But then the Should Monster showed up. You know this voice. It doesn't come in loud, demanding and hissing because that would be too easy to dismiss. It comes in reasonable. It comes in small like…You should...

The view from a cabin I stayed at back in 2019. It was one of my regular solo getaways where I take time to rest and reconnect. Do You Ever Want to Run Away to the Forest? To be in a cabin where all you hear is the nearby river... the birds... the trees. The animals rustling around outside. You read. You live off the land. You walk the forest. You create, with no one watching and nowhere to be.Or is that just me? This has been showing up in my journal a lot lately. This pull toward a life...
