🌳 The trees reminded me of something this week...

Yesterday morning, while having my first sip of coffee, I watched the trees blowing in the wind.

I wasn’t on vacation or at a retreat. I was just outside on my deck, and I stopped to watch the trees move and dance. Click through the video to hang out with my trees for 11 seconds. 🧚🏻

And I thought: why isn't everyone doing this?

What I mean by that is this....Why isn't everyone taking a few moments as they start their day (or as they move through it) to just marvel at the world they're already living in? The sunrise. The birds chirping. The clouds passing by. The sound of rain on the roof.

Maybe you're reading this thinking, I do this. Okay, but do you do it consistently? Every day, or close to it? Or is it something you save for vacation? For days off? For after work when you can finally "rest"?

And if you're thinking I don't have time, I'll ask this of you...do you not have one minute or even thirty seconds in your day for you? One moment before you get in the car or as you drink your coffee? Do you not have a small moment to just be?

I get that there are there are seasons when life feels completely overwhelming. Like there's nothing left for you. But during those seasons, heck, especially during those seasons, you need to make space for yourself.

And here's one more thing to that I want to highlight: there's a difference between time and space.

You can make time for yourself. You can book a vacation, take a day off, block a Saturday. And then fill every inch of it with plans and people and things to do. You've made time. But have you created any space?

Space is different. Space is what happens when you stop (even for sixty seconds) and let yourself just exist in the moment you're in. It doesn't require a flight or a hotel or a perfect morning. It requires a willingness to pause.

To help you with space, I'm giving you three small invitations. Pick one. Or try all three.

Your Invitations This Week

  1. One morning, before you do the first thing on your list, step (or look) outside for sixty seconds. Look around. Listen. Take a few deep breaths.
  2. The next time you get in your car, sit there for one minute before you start it. No phone. No radio. Just you and whatever's outside the window.
  3. Find one moment each day where you take a moment for you and put nothing in the space. No podcast, no scroll, no task. Just exist in it.

Create a little pocket of space that's just yours. That's all this is.

If you take one of these invitations this week, let me know what you noticed when you gave yourself some space. Hit reply and share...I'd love to know.

And if you're reading this thinking I don't even know where to start...that's exactly what a Spark Session is for. It's one hour, just you and me, dedicated entirely to helping you figure out how to make space in your actual life.

🌿 Unplugged Moments

Quick grounding practices to help you slow down and reconnect.

This Week's Practice: The In-Between

Pick one transition in your day like getting in your car, walking into a meeting, or arriving home.

Before you do the next thing, stop. Thirty seconds. Right there in the in-between.

Don't pull out your phone. Or busy your mind with next steps. Just breathe.

That's space.

Sundays Unplugged is your weekly reminder to slow down and create space for you. Remember, while your work, your people, and your life matters… so do you.

Legs propped up on rocks by river in the woods.

Hey Reader, A few weeks ago, I sent an email where I joked about wanting to pack a bag and run away to the forest. The truth is… it wasn’t entirely a joke. Lately, I keep coming back to the same idea and desire (one I've had for a few years): creating spaces where people can step away from the noise and busyness of everyday life for a few hours (or maybe even overnight) and simply breathe. No packed itinerary or pressure to “transform.” Just cozy places near nature with room to wander, time...

My main caregiver last week - Marley! I've been sick for over a week. What started as a bad cold in June turned into a sinus infection in July. By Monday, I knew I needed to rest. Not “kind of” rest either…actually rest. The lie down and do nothing kind. And I was going to. I really was. But then the Should Monster showed up. You know this voice. It doesn't come in loud, demanding and hissing because that would be too easy to dismiss. It comes in reasonable. It comes in small like…You should...

The view from a cabin I stayed at back in 2019. It was one of my regular solo getaways where I take time to rest and reconnect. Do You Ever Want to Run Away to the Forest? To be in a cabin where all you hear is the nearby river... the birds... the trees. The animals rustling around outside. You read. You live off the land. You walk the forest. You create, with no one watching and nowhere to be.Or is that just me? This has been showing up in my journal a lot lately. This pull toward a life...
