Are you really living? Or just going through the motions?

Four things I noticed when I slowed down: Blooming hosta and flower, cool spiky tree seed pod and moss with dew drops
Why are we really here? I know… big question for a Sunday.
But really...why are you here, on this earth?
And I’m not talking about your job, your purpose, or the roles you carry: parent, partner, teammate, leader, caretaker, achiever.
I’m talking about something more basic. More human.
When you really stop to think about it....We’re here to live. To fully experience this one wild, beautiful, sometimes messy, always precious life.
But we forget. I forget.
We get caught up in the rushing, the striving, the constant reaching for “what’s next?” We try to skip the hard parts and cling to the good ones - or speed through them so we can get to more good parts.
We sometimes numb with scrolling, Netflix, alcohol, work - anything to distract ourselves from the discomfort of simply being with life. The messy emotions. The quiet. Even the boredom.
I’m guilty of this. Recently, I chose “watch TV” over “be bored.” It didn’t recharge me. It didn’t even really entertain me. It just filled a space I didn’t want to feel.
And honestly? All that space was asking for was for me to spend a bit of time noticing. Not fixing. Not numbing (which is what the TV was doing). Just… noticing Being with it.
So here’s your invitation (and mine): What might happen if we stopped trying to fill the space - and just allowed it to be there?
Even for five minutes. Call it a "pocket of presence".
Here are a few ways to step into that:
Pause before you reach. The next time you catch yourself reaching for your phone out of habit, see if you can pause. Take one slow breath. Notice what’s around you.
Do one thing slowly. Drink your coffee without multitasking. Fold the laundry without rushing. Walk without needing to get anywhere. Just experience that one thing. Let it be enough.
Let yourself be bored. Even just for a few minutes. Instead of filling every gap, see what bubbles up in the quiet. Curiosity. Clarity. A spark you didn’t know you needed. (This is the one I'm working on!)
Maybe those moments of presence...of slowing down....will help us remember why we're really here.
To experience this thing called life.
Sending love and presence vibes,
Chris

This Week's Tip: The 3-Second Grounding
Stop for a moment. Place your feet flat on the ground. Take 3 deep breaths, focusing on the sensation of your feet connecting to the earth. Feel the support beneath you.
And just like that, you’re rooted in the present moment.
