When’s the last time you wrote a love letter to yourself?

I’ll be honest—I never had. I’d written them for boyfriends and later for my husband, but never one to me. That idea felt… silly. Stupid, even. Hard.

​

“What’s there to love about me?”

​
That question circled my mind for years, quiet but persistent, like background noise I couldn’t tune out. Writing a love letter to myself wasn’t on my to-do list. Then last November, during a retreat I attended, it became an activity we were invited to try.

​

I didn’t want to do it.​
​

Ask me to speak in front of a thousand people? No problem. Ask me to write a love letter to myself? Not happening. But there I was, pen in hand, resistance mounting, tears already streaming. Why?

​

Because I didn’t know what I loved about myself.

​

I know I’m not alone in thinking, “What’s there to love about me?” Or maybe you do know what you love about yourself, but the idea of writing it down feels silly.

​

But here’s the thing: writing a love letter to yourself tells your body, mind, and spirit that you see it, you appreciate it, you get it. It’s a way to honor the things you love about yourself—no matter how big or small.

​

That fateful day, I scribbled down how much I loved my funky short hair, my playful attitude, and how fun it was that I loved Care Bears. And that was it. That’s all I could come up with at the time. Now, there’s so much more I love about myself—I can see that now.

​

But this isn’t about my love letter. It’s about yours.

​

As we wind down 2024 and step into 2025, I invite you to take a moment to write yourself a love letter. It doesn’t have to be long—just a sentence or two, a paragraph, or a full letter. You get to decide.

​

This Week's Tip: Ground Yourself Before You Write

Before writing your love letter to yourself, take a moment to root and connect with yourself:

  1. Breathe: Take three deep breaths, feeling your feet on the ground allowing your body to settle.
  2. Tune In: Place your hand on your heart and ask, “What do I need to hear today?”
  3. Set an Intention: Jot down one word or phrase that captures what you want your letter to express—gratitude, courage, or love.

This simple practice creates space to let your authentic voice shine through.
